I was born in Indianapolis, IN, but escaped at the age of 19 to the rich surreal grit of Chicago, IL where I lived for 11 years. There I was extremely active in the local music, fringe zine, and avant garde arts communities. In August, 1996 I migrated to Seattle, WA where I now reside. I continue to pursue my interests in experimental music and journalism. To learn more about my skillset, please consult the w o r k s section.

Initially a technophobe, I was introduced to the Chicago computer BBS Smoking Mirror in late 1992. Within a year Smoking Mirror became one of the first ISPs in the city, Tezcat.Com. I continued to be active and began designing web sites for Lynx, before the graphical browsers existed. Shortly after Mosaic was first released, I founded tezcat online publishing. Pursuing my own projects as well as working closely with local artists and venues, t.o.p. not only pioneered online publishing but helped bring Chicago artists into the information age. We also won some awards along the way.

After valuable stints as Tezcat.Com staffer and webmaster, I folded t.o.p. and went independent in late 1995. Following an exciting period of discovery, I moved to Seattle where I continued to freelance with various clients, primarily through the good services of Creative Assets. Within a few months I accepted a full-time position at PhotoDisc.Com as the resident HTML production expert. In addition to handling full production duties, I supervised site archiving, developed high level design precision, and collaborated on the development of new areas of the site.

Since September 1997, I have been senior web developer at TPD Publishing (now Fluent Communications). Although working on such rewarding projects as Nintendo and Yoshi's Story, my primary duty has been Technical Lead for Microsoft Advantage, an experimental annuity program combining online commerce with monthly magazine content.

In Chicago, I served as co-producer, technical chief, and publicist for the legendary alternative music and arts venue, Club Lower Links. Featuring local, national, and international artists of every genre and medium, Club Lower Links' influence continues to be felt nearly 10 years after its demise. As an independent, I produced several music festivals as well as numerous concerts, film series, and special events.

Publishing has been a passion of mine since the 3rd grade, when I produced my first crude comic books. In high school I simultaneously won awards at the weekly school paper and rattled cages with my own underground newspaper. As an adult, I have co-edited several underground academic and arts journals, and written extensively on politics, history, and culture for Lumpen magazine. I also have extensive experience writing/editing spot copy, news, and technical documentation. Feel free to read some articles I have written.

I have been playing and recording music in various ensembles and personae for over 17 years. My artistic work has spanned rock, experimental, improvisational, and folk milieus. Additionally, I have an extensive background in theater and performance art, as well as sound design for stage and film. Visit Music Shmusic to learn more about my crimes.

For many years my "day gig" was engineering concerts, performances and recording projects of every description — punk, jazz, experimental, spoken word, radio, multimedia performance, film presentation, theater, performance art, music videos, etc. I am at home in both analog and digital sound studios, large venues and black-box theaters.
